Template:LanguageThamonic (Thamonic: Tamón [ta.'mun]) is an East Ijeðic language spoken by around 30 million people, mainly in Thamonia.
Phonology
Thamonic is defined by a large amount of allophony and a moderately complex possible syllable structure.
Consonants
| Labial | Alveolar | Postalveolar | Dorsal | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nasal | m | n | (ŋ) | |
| Plosive | p~f~v | t~θ~ð | tʃ~dʒ | k~x~ɣ |
| Fricative | f~v | s~z | ʃ~ʒ | |
| Liquid | l | r~r̥ | j |
Plosives become fricatives unless they're at the beginning of a word, or part of fricative-plosive clusters (Though, it is possible to turn a plosive into a fricative if it's at the beginning of a word starting a consonant cluster). All consonants become voiced intervocalically, and devoiced word-finally (though this does not apply to nasals).
Vowels
Thamonic has 4 phonemic vowels.
| Front | Back | |
|---|---|---|
| Close | i | o~u |
| Close-Mid | e | |
| Open | a | |
In Thamonic, /u/ typically only appears as an allophone of o in stressed positions, or in u-diphthongs.
Stress
Stress in Thamonic is irregular, phonemic, and typically marked.
